포텐-지독하게(4TEN-Severly)

Recently, 4Ten released an album called “Jack of All Trades”. So far I’m only aware of “Severly” and “Tornado” having live performances and music videos.

To me “Severly” very much makes me think of KARA. I know I’ve seen many people go “Oh! Japanese music! It totally has a Japanese music vibe to it, especially anime music!”

But to me this song sounds like it can defintiely fit in KARA’s album more than a Japanese animation show.

To prove my point even more listen to to the KARA songs below and then tell me it doesn’t fit them.

“Way” by Kara [Album: Pandora]

“2Night” by KARA [Album: Full Bloom]

“Go Go Summer” by KARA

Damaged Lady by Kara [Album: Full Bloom]

(I attempted to not include popular songs, but I faileds. XD Especially for Damaged Lady. Hey! That song holds special meaning to me. )

KARA’s music from what I’ve heard has a lot of these undertones of 1980s and 1990s pop music to it. (And perhaps that’s why they did so well in Japan. Their sound didn’t really need to change to be more fitting for Japanese music charts. This group has able to do both Japanese and Korean charts well do to how their songs sounded.)

Last time I heard of 4Ten to be honest was for Poten “Go Easy”. Yep, I totes skipped over “Why”. In case you were wondering yep the band made some changes. They went from Poten to 4Ten.

Anyways, overall really like 4Ten’s “Severly” even more so than the previous songs that they made. Speaking of 4Ten’s recent and previous songs, I’ve noticed that the undertones of 4Ten’s songs are the same.

4Ten has a set sound but it’s subtle. It’s not like Ladies Code with “Pretty Pretty” and “Kiss Kiss” or EXID with “Up and Down” and “Ah yeah”, where I’ve seen multiple people reaching to state that you can sing the lyrics of one song with the instrumental of the other and it would fit perfectly. Which in my opinion and my testing, doesn’t. They do NOT fit perfectly with each other. I have tried this!

Iskui Abalyan (Искуи Абалян)

Note: “Искуи Абалян” is copied and pasted from the video title. I do not know how to speak Belarusian or Russian.

Iskui Abalyan, (Beluarusian singer) new single “Геометрия“~ I wonder what genre this would be? hmm…

Unfortunately, I do not have much to state for this post due to my very low knowledge of Iskui Abalyan, the country of Belarus and me being unable to find more knowledge currently. (It seems not many people from the U.S listen to music from this country in general.)

NOTE: Belarus is neighbour countries are Poland (west border), Lithuania (northwest), Latvia (northwest), Ukraine (south) and Russia (north east).

Melanie Martinez “Gingerbread Man”

The most interesting song that came out during the holidays. (The song was specifically released on Dec 23, 2015)

Nevermind the fact of Melanie’s soft sounding voice. (Which I love! But then again I have a soft voice myself….) This song is far from your usual jolly and holly Christmas tune.

I’d like to state that this song seems to be the Krampus of Christmas songs. Sure quite an amount of people know of this song and Krampus, but Krampus isn’t like Santa and seemingly not as well known or commercialized.

Which makes sense, this companion of St. Nick is the one that doesn’t look very jolly and it seems his main job is to punish those naughty children along with being an incentive to keep children from doing bad things.

There’s a sort of darkness to “Gingerbread Man”, specifically the picture within the video and the sound. Combine it with the chimes and the girl in the picture the song also has a touch of “innocence” to it. With some parts definitely not being innocent.

This combination of innocence and darkness definitely reminds me of Melanie Martinez’s “Dollhouse.”

Martinez’s music style seems to be a good match for Tim Burton movies. A lot of Tim Burton movies have darkness, but also this combination of innocence and non innocence.

Overall, I feel like I could get my friends that aren’t a huge fan of Christmas to listen to it. Well more likely to get them to listen to this than Christmas carols. XD

Some information about Melanie Martinez:

-She was on The Voice (Season 3)

–She was part of Team Adam. And ended up being one of the most popular singers for that season.

-American singer AND songwriter

-Her song “Carousel” was used in a preview for FX’s American Horror Story: Freak Show

Gulnara Koshenovo [Гульнара Кошенова]

I do not speak Russian or Kazakhs.

I copied and pasted her name written like this: “Гульнара Кошенова” from one of her videos.

Gulnara Koshenova is a singer from Kazakhstan.

A country who’s neighbours are: Russia (north), China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.

I would guess that her ethnicity is Kazakhs, however I am very open to being wrong to that due to Kazakhstan’s multiple ethnic groups.

Ethnic groups in Kazakhstan: Kazakhs, Tartars, Ukrainians, Germans, Russians, Uzbeks and Uyghurs.

Just recently Gulnara Koshenova’s song Сезим (Чувство)” came out. It was uploaded on the channel Ello.

The song was sung in Kazakhs. To me the music video seems pretty abstract style wise. It features many shots of Gulnara, capturing her beauty well in multiple outfits. The music video while capturing the singer’s physical beauty doesn’t let the singer’s voice and the music be covered by it.

Gulnara Koshenova can also sing in English as seen in this cover:

Apparently she also has a YouTube channel:
